Lately

Things are a little crazy here at the new house. Unpacking isn’t so bad. I actually don’t mind it. It’s fun putting things away in a new, clean kitchen and figuring out how to decorate.

I just wish I had time to do it. Life doesn’t stop just because I moved. Most everything is done and I’m feeling settled, but I’m still living out of boxes here and there.

But then I saw the trailer for The Lucky One. (watch it NOW!!) and realized that I made a horrible life choice. I should’ve stayed in the old house, kept all the horses and hired Zac Effron as my ranch hand. Man! What a mistake! Oh well, as long as a guy can look that good while throwing heavy bags of feed into the bed of an old pick up truck, I guess he could take me on a date. (insert terrified whine here.)

Dating. Still not sure I’m going to talk about it here. I dunno. Any of my widowed friends have advice on that one? It’s a big freaking issue that I’ve generally avoided thinking about for the last year.

ANYWAYS.

I just have to say that my new house is so freaking cute it would make you squeal and just want to come over let the kids play, bake cookies and do laundry. YAY! I’m so happy about this house. (Even though there is no reason to hire a ranch hand here.)

We have a lot to do with the 2012 Teen Author Boot Camp. I’m so freaking excited! We’ve doubled our numbers- we’re expecting about 230 teens and I get to hang out with awesome authors like Brandon Mull! Eek!

So, I’m crazy busy with that. Just the other day, I was feeling overwhelmed, then I had a thought hit me, like the crazy, red-eyed 2011 version of Tahsha was yelling right at me. “You have NOTHING to whine about. Last year you had to do all this same stuff. It was a bazillion times more stressful and you managed all that.”

Then I sit back and think: “Oh. I guess it’s really not all that bad.”

That made me feel better.

Oh, and why didn’t anyone tell me that Miranda Lamert heard all about my life and decided to write a song about it? I love/hate this song. But seriously. Isn’t it written JUST for me????

Weather man said it’s gonna snow

By now I should be used to the cold

Mid-February shouldn’t be so scary

It was only December

I still remember the presents, the tree, you and me

But you went away

How dare you?

I miss you

They say I’ll be OK

But I’m not going to ever get over you

Living alone here in this place

I think of you, and I’m not afraid

Your favorite records make me feel better

Cause you sing along

With every song

I know you didn’t mean to give them to me

But you went away

How dare you?

I miss you

They say I’ll be OK

But I’m not going to ever get over you

It really sinks in, you know, when I see it in stone

Cause you went away,

How dare you?

I miss you

They say I’ll be OK

But I’m not going to ever get over you

It’s hard because it’s true. I’ll never “get over” Brad. How do you just “get over” him? How would you just “get over it” if your Mom or Dad or child died? But I have to move on. I feel myself moving on with life-opening a new chapter. But doing that, all while never “being over Brad?” That’s super tricky.

On a not so debbie downer note-- I’m going to Disneyland! Yay! I’ve bribed Leah and even I have to wrestle her in, I WILL get a picture of us screaming on splash mountain!

I’ll post it when I get back.

:)
